Sky High (2005) Dir. Mike Mitchell Writ. Paul Hernandez Stars: Michael Angarano, Danielle Panabaker, Kurt Russell Rated PG 100 mins. Adventure, Comedy, Family IMDB: 6.2
Sky High is a cute movie. I remember first seeing it in high school and I always liked it. There isn’t much to say about this movie, really.
Sky High follows Will Stronghold, the son of two superheros, who is starting his first day at Sky High, a high school for superheroes and sidekicks. Will’s secret, however, is that he has no powers. He’s faked being super strong like his dad, The Commander, but he actually has no powers. His best friend, Layla, is able to control plants, and is, as you would expect, a total hippy.
Instead of living up to his legacy, Will starts out as a sidekick with Layla (who refused to take the test to become a hero) and his less-than-popular friends. His ‘nemesis’, is the classic ‘leather wearing bad boy’ only this time, he’s literally the son of a super villain and he makes fire with his hands.
Sky High basically follows the formula for the average high school teen movie, only with the added dramatics of it all being set in a superhero world. It’s hilarious, cute, and a total classic.
My Rating: 7/10
