Look! Two weeks in a row!
Alien (1979) Dir. Ridley Scott Writ. Dan O'Bannon, Ronald Shusett Stars: Sigourney Weaver, John Hurt, Tom Skerritt Rated R 117 mins. Sci-Fi, Horror IMDB 8.5
Ah, Alien. We’re going classic this week!
I have to be honest, I mostly only watched this movie because Sigourney Weaver is one of my favorite people in the history of the world. And she’s such a fucking badass as Ripley.
Alien is about the crew of a commercial space ship that picks up what they think is a beacon for help only to find an old, abandoned ship and one of their guys get attacked by a thing and then… all hell breaks loose! If you haven’t seen Alien by now, you’re probably never going to, so I won’t go into all the details.
To be totally real, this movie isn’t as good as people make it out to be in my opinion. It’s not BAD by any means. I actually really love it in a fun, feminist way. What’s better than a movie where a woman goes, “This is a dumb thing to do” and a bunch of dudes go “FUCK YOU I DO WHAT I WANT!” and then it turns out that yes, that was a dumb thing to do… and (spoiler alert) they all get eaten! Also, Ripley is freaking amazing. Just saying.
Also, I absolutely love that the kitty looks just like my kitty Tigger ❤
The thing that I don’t really love about this movie is that the build up is so long and it ends so fast. Also the whole thing with Ashe doesn’t have a lot of clarification. Like, that’s a whole thing that you want to explore more within this film and it’s just like ‘well we don’t have time for this’. Also the last two deaths are like ‘oh yeah we have to get rid of these ones, too’, you know? It’s very rushed. Like I said, first half is long, second half is rushed.
But, all in all, it is a very great Sigourney Weaver film!
My Rating: 6/10
I really like Alien as a classic survival/horror but Aliens is probably a more entertaining movie to watch. Larger cast and bigger guns. No where near the suspense of the first film though.

Yeah, Aliens has a much more entertaining story to it, for sure. Alien feels a bit like the BEGINNING of a movie that didn’t really get carried out, to me.
BUT a really cool beginning, for sure.
